CITY OF SAN BERNARDINO - REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION
STAFF REPORT
SUBJECT
Request donation of two (2) older model police vehicles to the Inland Valley Development Agency
(I.V.D.A.)/San Bernardino International Airport Authority (S.B.I.A.A.), for use by the Airport
Security Force.
BACKGROUND
Previously, the City of San Bernardino donated police vehicles to the Inland Valley Development
Agency (I.V.D.A.) for use by the Resource Protection Force (RPF), now ]mown as the Airport
Security Force.
The donated vehicles were determined to be non-serviceable for police use, due to high mileage
and/or increasing maintenance costs. These vehicles are generally auctioned and the proceeds
placed into the City General Fund.
The donation of two vehicles to the Airport Security Force would allow replacement of two (2)
vehicles no longer usable due to major mechanical damage. This would enable Airport Security to
continue security efforts at the airport and continue to assist the San Bernardino Police Department
by responding to calls for service within our areas of security responsibility.
With the transfer of title for these vehicles, the City would remove themselves from liability.
Insurance, registration and maintenance would be the I.V.D.A./S.B.I.A.A.'s responsibility.
FINANCIAL IMPACT
It is estimated the possible revenue from auction of these vehicles might be from $4,000 to $4,500
each, totaling from $8,000 to $9,000. Potential revenue will not be realized upon donation of these
vehicles to the IVDA.
RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends that the Mayor and Common Council adopt said resolution authorizing the
donation of two (2) older model police vehicles to the Inland Valley Development Agency
(I.V.D.A.)/San Bernardino International Airport Authority (S.B.I.A.A.), for use by the Airport
Security Force. Those vehicles to be donated shall be SBPD Unit #15 (VIN
#2FALP71 W9SX166855) and Unit#26 (VIN#2FALP71 W7SX166871).
