CITY OF SAN BERNARDINO - REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION
STAFF REPORT
Subject: Reconsideration of the fencing requirements.
Mayor and Common Council Meeting, May 16, 1994
BACKGROUND
The City recently adopted an amendment to the Development Code to
permit chain link fencing in the residential, commercial and
industrial land use districts on the side and rear property lines,
behind the front setback and not adjacent to a public street.
COST TO CITY
Planning staff estimates that it will cost approximately $2000 to
complete an amendment including preparation of the text, legal
notices, and completion of the staff report and ordinance. This
amount does not include review by any other departments/divisions.
RECOMMENDATION
I recommend that Planning staff be directed to consider an
amendment to the Development Code to remove the word "Residential"
from the land use designations where chain link fencing
prohibitions are applicable, and to amend Table 20. 01 to allow 5
feet in height on the front property lines, and a height of 6 feet
in height on the front property lines, and a height of 6 feet at a
10 foot setback in front yards in Residential Districts.
