Backeround: The Traffic Engineering section of the Public Works Department received a request from a citizen to evaluate the intersection of 11th Street and Ramona Avenue. The citizen's main concern was that the intersection is currently uncontrolled. Upon reviewing the field conditions, Traffic Engineering staff expanded the area of study to include all uncontrolled intersections on 11th Street between Medical Center Drive and Mt. Vernon Avenue. There are three uncontrolled intersections within this segment of 11th Street including: Tia Juana Street, Ramona Avenue, and Herrington Avenue. Two intersections within this road segment are already controlled by stop signs. The Pico Avenue intersection is controlled by two-way stop controls for the northbound and southbound approaches, and the Western Avenue intersection is controlled by two-way stop Updated:4/11/2012 by Georgeann"Gigi"Hanna B 1644 controls for the eastbound and westbound approaches. i Staff evaluated the intersections including collision history, traffic volumes, and road conditions in accordance with the California Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD). Staff determined that traffic safety would be enhanced if five stop signs costing a total of$2,500 were installed on the north and southbound approaches of Tia Juana Street, Ramona Avenue and 1 Herrington Avenue at 11th Street, all of which are currently uncontrolled. Approval of the attached Resolution would authorize this action.
