BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN BERNARDINO AS FOLLOWS: WHEREAS, under current California law, consumers are protected when markets change to automated checkout systems by the requirement that products must be price marked or stamped with readable, Arabic numbers; and WHEREAS, some markets in other parts of the country have ceased marking products and rely only on the new Universal Product Code which is not readable to human eyes OE on markings on shelves which are often unreliable; and WHEREAS, the present California law expires on April 1, 1977; and WHEREAS, to protect consumers from computer error, by no means a rare phenomenon, two bills have been introduced in the State Legislature which would reimpose the requirement for price marking on packages and cans, effective January 1, 1978, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR ~ COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN BERNARDINO that for thT benefit of the consumers of this City, we declare it to be our public policy to support Senate Bill No.32 and Assembly Bill No.18, the Price Marking Bills now under consideration by the Senate and Assembly of the State of California.
