A small percentage of these trees are within the areas of Tippecanoe Avenue, "c" Street (Sheppard Boulevard) and Del Rosa Drive, being improved under a contract with the Matich Corporation. Even though the number of trees in conflict with the proposed improvements ~s relatively small, concern was expressed 'by some members of the community relative to removal of these trees. A certified arborist was, therefore, engaged to inspect the trees in conflict with the improvement of these streets. The arborist identified eleven (11) which could be relocated and have a good chance of survival. IVDA entered into a separate contract with a landscape contractor to box these eleven (11) trees, in preparation for moving. A separate contract was necessary, in order for them to be boxed before spring growth occurred. Matich Corporation was requested to provide a price quote to relocate these eleven (11) trees to designated locations within Norton A.F.B. A price quote of $104,500.00 was submitted in response to this request. We have reviewed the price quote, along with the cost breakdown provided by the sub-contractor who will be doing the relocation, and feel that it is fair and reasonable. The total estimated project cost included an amount of $845,687 for contingencies, which can be used to finance the cost of this additional work. Funds to finance the increase of $104,500 in the contract price, from $4,113,313.00 to $4,217,813.00, will be provided from the following sources: Economic Development Administration Grant - 75% Inland Valley Development Agency - - - 25% This extra work has been discussed with the project representa- tive from the Economic Development Administration, and received concept approval. A copy of Change Order No. One has been faxed to this representative, and we are striving to secure a verbal approval. All costs will be charged to Account No. 242-362-57291. We recommend that Change Order No. One be approved. "C" Street and 6th Street (Del Rosa Drive) OWNER: CONTRACTOR: City of San Bernardino Matich Corooration The following changes are hereby made to the CONTRACT DOCUMENTS: The additional work of relocating II adult oak trees that are presently located Within.tbte Street Widening Project area. Justification: An additional requirement to relocate adult oak trees was placed on the project. A certified arborist has stated that many of the existing adult oak trees are in poor condition and the chances of them being relocated and surviving the process are slim. However, there are ll-oak trees that appear to be in good condition and should survive the process. Various factors are taken into consideration in determining if an adult tree can be relocated, such as, the root structure, age of the tree, and the general condition of the tree.
