" TO: Marshall Julian, City Administrator FROM: Larry E. Reed, Director of Building and Safety SUBJECT: Uniforms for Code Compliance Officers DATE: September 26, 1989 COPIES: Jim Richardson, Deputy City Administrator; Redevelopment Agency staff; Don Hesterl ey, Code Supervi sor ------------------------------------------------------------- At the direction of the Mayor, the Department of Building and Safety has been asked to pursue placing the Department's Code Enforcement Officers in uniform. The Code Enforcement Division has chosen to go with the following uniform: medium heather gray pants / skirt light blue shirt with epaulettes patches & "Code Enforcement" on the sleeve navy, maroon, and white stripped tie navy blue blazer with city patch on front pocket navy windbreaker jacket This is a combination uniform that allows the flexibility of looking professional and more business like when dealing businesses and attending meetings, and more authoritarian without the blazer, shirt and patches when required. The initial cost per officer is $432.90, which includes changing over each Code Enforcement Officer's badge case to the type which can be worn in the front shirt or jacket pocket. The $432.90 multiplied by nine (9) Code Officers (seven Code Enforcement Officers including Alex Valanzuela, one Senior Code Officer and the one Supervisor) makes a total initial outlay of $3,896.10. Please advise the Department of Building and Safety as to the process for obtaining the additional funding. In addition, is the funding coming from RDA? Does the purchase of the uniforms-funding require Council authorization? ~ .' Zd1:'t ~/ Larry~. Reed, Director Department of Building and Safety LER:nhm
