RESOLUTION NO.
qb~
r
A RESOLUTION IN ME\40RY OF J.AMES W. COLE.
WHEREAS, James W. Cole, more affectionately known as
Jim Cole, throughout most of his life was a trusted public offi-
cial. From the end of his school days he devoted his life and
energy to public work, as County Highway Commissioner and Super-
intendent of highway construction many road and highway improve-
ments were dreamed, planned, constructed and brought into exist-
enoe by his untiring energy and ability, and the far stretches of
San Bernardino County were brought nearer to the centers of popu-
lation and made more accessible to development and progress.
When the drums of the first world war interrupted the
peaceable way of our life, Jim Cole laid aside the transit and
the tools of peace and as. a member of the United States Engineers
aided in clearing the roads and bridges of France for a forward
and triumphant march of our soldiers.
A man of untiring industry, with a keen and analytical
interest and an ability to organize and lead men to perform any
task, he became interested in pOlice work and its many problems
Appointed by Mayor W. C. Seccombe as Chief of Police of the City
of San Bernardino, in May, 1941, he was soon faoed with many
serious problems, not only of police work but civilian defense and
kindred war time measures. To the performance of this work, he
devoted long hours during both the day and the, night impressing
everyone with whom he worked or oame in oontaot, with his sin-
oerity, his ability, and his perserverity in getting a job well
done.
Jim Cole beoame an outstanding Chief of Police, one
of the best this City has had the fortune to have. He welded and
knit the Department together under many adverse oonditions and
gained the respeot, the admiration, and the love of his men.
