STAFF REPORT
SUBJECT:
Resolution authorizing the submittal of an application to Southern California Edison's Grants &
Contribution program in the amount of $25,000 to fund the environmental impact component of
the City Beautification Partnership's Clean-Up Day.
BACKGROUND:
The City is currently in the process of seeking sponsorships and funding opportunities for the
Beautification Partnership. In doing so, a funding opportunity was identified through Southern
California Edison's (SCE) Grants & Contribution program. This program provides grants and
sponsorships up to $25,000 to non-profit and non-governmental organizations. Through this
grant program, SCE invests in the communities they serve in the areas of Education,
Environment, and The Underserved. SCE's "Environment" focus area is the area which the City
believes the Beautification Partnership's Clean-Up Day is eligible for funding.
The Economic Development Agency (EDA) has agreed to assist the City in the Clean-Up Day
and allow the City to utilize their non-profit status for the submission and receipt of grants. This
will enable the City to meet SCE's non-profit requirement. The City intends to submit an online
application and request the amount of $25,000 to defray the trash pick-up costs, energy
efficiency improvements, and landscaping enhancement components of the Clean-Up Day
projects.
On August 9, 2011, the Grants Ad Hoc Committee discussed the application and referred the
item to the Mayor and Common Council with a recommendation for approval.
FINANCIAL IMPACT:
Funding in the amount of up to $25,000 is available. No local match is required. There is no
financial impact on the City's General Fund. All grant funds awarded will be placed into EDA's
non-profit account to cover Clean-Up Day costs related to environmental related projects.
Account Budgeted Amount:
None
Balance as of August 15,2011:

Recommendation:
It is recommended that the Mayor and Common Council approve this Resolution.
