Dept: HUMAN RESOURCES Date: July7,2011 MICC Meeting Date: July 18, 2011 Synopsis of Previous Council Action: On October 5, 2009, the Mayor and Common Council approved the establishment of salaries for Police Department Ranges P-4, P-5, P-6, and P-7, effective August 1, 2008. On September 21, 2009, the Mayor and Common Council approved the establishment of salaries for Police Department Ranges P-1, P-2, P-3 and Law Enforcement Trainee effective August 1, 2009. Recommended Motion: 1. That the salaries for Police Department Ranges P-1 (Police Officer), P-2 (Detectivel Corporal), P-3 (Sergeant), P-4 (Lieutenant), P-5 (Captain), P-6 (Assistant Chief), P-7 (Chief) and Law Enforcement Trainee be established, effective August 1,2010. 2. Backl!round: As outlined in Resolutions 2010-275 and 2010-345, the Police Safety and Police Management employees agreed to negotiate Charter Section 186 formula to result in no financial impact for 2010 and 2011. This staffreport is in preparation for updating Resolution 6429. Section 186 of the City Charter established a formula for setting salaries for local safety members, effective August 1 of each year. An agreement was reached for the 10 cities to be used for this year's calculations. The salaries of those 10 cities have been averaged to determine this year's salaries for Police Safety and Police Management classifications. The Law Enforcement Trainee salary will remain at $4,086 per month ($23.57 per hour), which is 80% of Step A for the Police Officer (P-I) salary. Financial ImDact: There is no financial impact. Recommendation: I. That the salaries for Police Department Ranges P-I (Police Officer), P-2 (Detective/ Corporal), P-3 (Sergeant), P-4 (Lieutenant), P-5 (Captain), P-6 (Assistant Chief), P-7 (Chief) and Law Enforcement Trainee be established, effective August I, 2010. 2.
