STAFF REPORT
Plans for the installation of this storm drain have been
prepared by the Engineering Division and the project is ready to
be advertised for bids. The project entails the installation of
a 42-inch storm drain, from Town Creek Channel to San Gabriel
Street, as the first phase of a storm drain system that is
planned to extend westerly to Kenwood Avenue.
Listed below is an estimate of the total project cost:
Construction Contract -
$ 78,960
Engineering & Inspection (W.O. #1820)
8,600
Sub-Total
$ 87,560
Contingencies (15%)!
12,440
TOTAL ESTIMATED PROJECT COST
$100,000
An amount of $83,600 was allocated, under Account No.
248-368-57821, Twenty-First Street Storm Drain, to finance the
costs that will be incurred for this project. We recommend that
any necessary supplemental funds be provided after the bids are
opened and the low bid price is known.
A permit will be required from the u.S. Army Corps of
Engineers to connect to the Twin Creek Channel. An application
has been submitted for the required permit. Issuance of a permit
normally takes about 90 days from submittal of an application.
One of our six positions of Construction Inspector is
vacant. The five currently employed are stretched to their limit
with the public works and private development projects now
underway. Therefore, advertising this project will have to be
deferred until some projects are completed and/or the vacant
position is filled.
We recommend that the plans be approved, and
authorization granted to advertise for bids when a permit is
received from the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers and sufficient
construction engineering personnel are available.
