STAFF REPORT
On October 1, 1987, the Community Development Citizen Advisory
Committee (CDCAC) considered a funding request ($150,000-$165,000)
from the Parks, Recreation and Community services Department for
replacement of the Nunez Park pool filtration system. The item was
referred back to staff and the Parks, Recreation and Community
Services Department to determine if there were other possible
funding sources available. The CDCAC felt that the nature of the
project suggested that it could and should have been planned for in
the Parks, Recreation and Community services budget.
On November 9, 1987, and February 3, 1988, staff was provided with
additional information from the Parks, Recreation and Community
Services Department pertaining to the cost estimates and request for
reconsideration by the CDCAC for funding of the design services
portion of the project. The approval of the design costs for this
project would enable the Parks, Recreation and Community Services
Department to submit a proposal for construction financing during
the FY 1988/1989 CDBG funding cycle.
The attached letter indicates that architectural and engineering
(A&E) charges range between six percent (6%) and eight percent (8%)
multiplied by the $130,000 (construction costs), with the resulting
amount estimated at is $10,400.
On March 17, 1988, the CDCAC reconsidered the request for funding
and took action recommending to the Mayor and Common Council
approval of this item.
I recommend adoption of the form motion.

SUbject: Cost estimate for proposed modification to Ruben Campos
Park Pool.
Dear Mr. Carter,
Per your direction we have inspected the above mentioned PQol and
prepared an estimate for the work discussed. This estimate is cal-
culated in 1986 dollars based on the general knowledge we were able
to obtain at the sight. We feel they are sufficiently accurate for
budget purposes. We have based our estimate on the equipment re-
commended by Larry Knorr of Knorr Pool Systems. His submitted mat-
erial is enclosed for your reference.
We feel the project breaks down as follows:
Removal of a minimum 2 filter tanks
Construction of a new surgechamber to recapture
gutter water & recirculate.
Installation of new 8 tank filter system, piping,
valves, and flowmeter.
Change existing gas chl. system to a liquid chl. system
and automatic disbursement of those chemicals.

Additional, if you desire to remove the remaining two tanks you
should add $15,000.00 to the above price. Engineering services for
a project like this could run 6 to 8 percent should you decide to
have a consultant prepare the plans and specifications.
Please feel free to call if any further clarification is required.
We apologize for the delay in preparing this estimate.
