CI\' OF SAN BERNARDI....O - REQUL.~T FOR COUNCIL AC~ JON
STAFF REPORT
Engineering received a neighborhood petition with 75 signatures
requesting 2-way stop signs on Harrington and Pico Avenues as they
intersect Goodlett Street. Their request was discussed at the Mayor's
Traffic Safety Advisory Committee meeting, and a traffic study
subsequently was completed.
The study indicates that Goodlett Street is a 64 foot-wide street in an
East/West direction and functions as a collector street between Mt.
Vernon and Medical Center Drive. Daily traffic volume on Goodlett is
estimated at two thousand per day, most of which is generated by the
Community Hospital in the vicinity. Traffic accident history shows
that two accidents were reported at Harrington. Both of them could have
been prevented by installing stop signs. In addition, local residents
claimed that there were stop signs installed at these intersections
before Mt. Vernon Avenue was realigned. The signs were stolen but never
replaced.
The Traffic Safety Committee concurs with the residents request and
recommends that the Mayor and City Council authorize stop signs on
Harrington and Pico Avenues at Goodlett Street.
