WHEREAS, victims of crime across America need and deserve support and assistance to help
them cope with the consequences of crime, National Crime Victims' Rights Week-April 23-29,
2006 offers us all the opportunity to promote strength in unity in helping victims and survivors of
crime, and recognizing their rights as victims; and
WHEREAS, the Mission of National Crime Victims' Rights Week is to provide a time of
nationwide remembrance, reflection, and re-commitment for crime victims and survivors and
those who serve them in order to raise individual, victim, and public awareness about the rights
and needs of crime victims; the challenges that victims face in seeking help and finding hope in
the aftermath of crime; and the positive impact that individuals and communities can have by
providing services and support to victims and survivors of crime; and
WHEREAS, by being united against crime and for victims' rights and services, we gain strength
as individuals, as communities, and as a nation as a whole, and offer strength to victims who seek
to recover in the aftermath of crime; and
WHEREAS, we must remain united in our commitment to ensure that all crime victims and
survivors are treated with compassion and respect, recognized as key participants within our
systems ofjustice, and afforded services that provide help and hope to them.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, PATRICK J MORRIS, MAYOR OF THE CITY OF SAN BERNARDINO,
DO HEREBY PROCLAIM APRIL 23-29,2006 AS
NATIONAL CRIME VICTIMS'RIGHTS WEEK
and urge the citizens of the City of San Bernardino to recognize the needs and rights of crime victims and
survivors, and to stand united in our commitment to victim justice as individuals, communities and a
Nation.
