WHEREAS, ROTARY INTERNATIONAL is a worldwide organization of business and professional
leaders dedicated to bringing about worldwide peace and goodwill; and
WHEREAS, on April 12. 1956, ROTARY INTERNATIONAL awarded a charter to the "ROTARY CLUB
OF NORTH San Bernardino" and in 19651he Club's name was officially changed to the "ROTARY
CLUB OF SAN BERNARDINO NORTH. " and
WHEREAS, initially sponsored by the Rotary Club of San Bernardino, the club consisted of 31 charter
members and the Club's Charter President was Joseph "Papa Joe" Hertel; and
WHEREAS, from its inception, Rotary North's communily projects have been directed toward Ihe area 's
youth, having raised over $1,000,000 through the years andfromfoundations established by club members
Joe Hertel and Bing Wong, and initiating severalfundraising activities such as tennis. baseball, softball
tournaments, 5 and 10-K runs, and hosting Rotary Youth Exchange students; and
WHEREAS, Rotary North is composed of civic minded. caring, and generous professional individuals
from the local business community who are committed to propagating goodwill and financial assistance
among our cily's less fortunate; and
WHEREAS, on Saturday, April 1. 2006, Rotary North will celebrate the 50th anniversary of its founding,
NOW, THEREFORE, I, PATRICK J. MORRIS, MAYOR OF THE CITY OF SAN BERNARDINO, DO
HEREBY EXTEND HEARTIEST CONGRATULATIONS TO THE
ROTARY CLUB OF SAN BERNARDINO NORTH
On the occasion of the Golden Anniversary of the Club's founding and commend and gratefully
acknowledge all of its members for their noble service and volunteerism in helping to improve the qualily
of life in our communily and particularly for our youth, and for their dedication to world peace.
