Synopsis of Previous Council action:
June, 1986 --- Allocation of $120,000 from CDBG funds approved, to
complete improvement of Patton Park South.
01-19-87 Plans approved and authorization granted to advertise
for bids.
06-01-87 Plans approved and authorization granted to advertise
for bids.
09-08-87 Transfer of $236,000.00, from Acct.#243-363-57528
to Acct.#243-362-57623 approved; Change Order No. One
approved deleting work from project and changing bid
prices; and Resolution No. 87-317 adopted awarding
contract to Matich Corp. for the low bid price of
$299,216.21 (as adjusted by Change Order No. One)
Recommended motion:
That Change Order No. Two to the contract with the
Matich Corporation, for improvements of Patton Park
South, Phase III, per Plan No. 7169, be approved; to
authorize the contractor to install 2 concrete stairs
with pipe handrails, for a net increase in contract
price of $6,037.00, from $299,216.21 to $305,253.21.

STAFF REPORT
This project was originally bid with sixteen additives.
This was done in order that the bid price would be within the
available funding level. A certain few of these additive alter-
nates were selected for inclusion in the contract award. The
quantities for some of these alternates were decreased in order
to reduce the contract price.
Construction of two concrete steps will be required, in
order to provide adequate access to the ballfields. These steps
are not in the present contract.
Change Order No. Two would authorize the Contractor to
construct two concrete stairs, with tubular steel handrails, for
the lump sum price of $6,037.00, increasing the contract price
from $299,216.21 to $305,253.21. We have reviewed the price
quote and feel that it is fair and reasonable for the work in-
volved.
After reduction of project scope, the project funding
included $46,383.79 for contingencies. These funds could be
used to cover the cost of this change order.
Since these steps are needed at this time to provide proper
access, and adequate funds are available, we recommend that
Change Order No. Two be approved.
URGENCY CL,Il,USE:
This project is nearing completion. Approval of these extra
items of work need to be secured at the meetina of 12-07-87,
in order to avoid delaying completion of the project.
