Council Notel: Anp.nrlA Itpm t\ln 9. c~ OF SAN BERNARlO4o - REQU~T FOR COUNCIL AWlON STAFF REPORT The work done under this contract was satisfactorily completed as of June 8, 1987. The project consisted of removing and replacing approximately 420 lineal feet of expansion joints on the 3-level parking structure. The specifications detailed a custom extrusion aluminum expansion joint, designed by Roy F, Kroll & Associates, Inc., the project architect. During construction, it was found that about 200 lineal feet of expansion jOint could not be installed, due to excessive move- ment and differential settlement of the adjoining parking struc- ture concrete slabs, The Contractor has installed 220 lineal feet of expansion joint, and delivered the remaining 200 feet of aluminum jOint material to the Public Buildings Division. This material will be used to replace expansion joints that fail, where the adjoining slabs are sufficiently in alignment. The contract was awarded for the low bid price of $23,655.00, The actual final contract price is $18,476.00, the sum of $12,540.00 for the installed joints and $5,936.00 for delivered joint material, Staff is presently working on solutions to the remaining joint problems. A test material will be installed in the next few days, It is expected that this material will provide a suitable joint in the areas of extreme slab differential. Should the material prove effective the remaining sections of joint will be replaced by either another contract or by City forces. We recommend that the project be accepted and that final payment be authorized at the expiration of the lien period. 6-10-87 '. , 75-0264.
