outlined in the staff report, effective August 1, 1989, and direct the Director of Personnel
to prepare an am IIldment to Resolution No. 6429.

STAFF REPORT
On November 6, 1989 Council approved new monthly salaries for
police and fire personnel in accordance with Charter Section
186. It has come to my attention that the salaries were
calculated based on applying the same percentage difference
between steps, whereas past practice has been to have the
same dollar difference between steps. We will follow past
practice, therefore I have recalculated the rates and they
are listed below.

STAFF REPORT
Section 186 of the City Charter establishes a formula for
settinq salaries for local safety members effective each
August 1. city staff has reached aqreement with representa-
tivesof the San Bernardino Police Officers' Association on
the 10 cities whose salaries will be averaqed to determine
this year's P-1, P-2 and P-3 salaries for the Police Depart-
ment. Those cities are:
Hayward Riverside
Huntinqton Beach Santa Clarita
Modesto Santa Rosa
Oranqe Stockton
Oxnard Torrance
The Dew monthly salary ranqes, effective August 1, 1989, are:
