CIt9 OF SAN BERNARDIC - REQUEOr FOR COUNCIL &COoN
STAFF REPORT
The east side of Central Avenue, adjacent to AYSO Park, has long been
a source of maintenance problems due to the large volume of storm water. City
Forces have been required to clean up mud and debris on numerous occasions. .An
interim asphalt dike and slope paving have been installed in an attempt to
control the damage, but these are showing accelerated deterioration.
Another problem has been the weeds growing on the dirt shoulder, and
through cracks in the slope paving. The residents on the west side are sub-
jected to additional traffic and parked vehicles due to activities related to
the soccer complex, and the unsightly view across the street only compounds
the problem. Also, it is difficult to ask AYSO Park to control weeds on their
property, if they are growing in profusion on the City right-of-way.
The work will consist, in general, of installing curb and gutter,
fill-in street paving, an irrigation line with sprinklers, and landscaping.
These improvements will need to be installed in accordance with plans pro-
posed by the Engineering Division. Work is expected to be started in
September.
We recommend that the expenditure be approved.
