STAFF REPORT
Plans for the modification of the traffic signals on
Baseline Street, from "H" Street to Sierra Way, have been pre-
pared by the Engineering Division and the p~oject is ready to
be advertised for bids. '
The project will consist, in general, of replacing the
existing controllers with Type 170 units. A program will be
furnished that will allow the operation of the signals within
the interconnected system to be monitored in the Traffic En-
gineering Section Office to determine if the timing is in the
proper sequence to provide progressive movement. Data will be
transmitted over a leased telephone line to a micro-computer.
The micro-computer required for this monitoring will be furnished
under this contract.
Listed below is an estimate of the total project cost.

An amount of $150,000 has been allocated from Federal-Aid
Urban Funds, under Account No. 242-362-57659, to finance the
costs that will be incurred for this project. Federal-Aid Urban
Funds can be used to cover any overrun. We recommend that the
supplemental funds needed, if any, be provided after the bids
are opened and the actual contract price is known.
At their meeting of 12-10-87, the Environmental Review
Committee made a finding that this project is exempt from the
provisions of the California Environmental Quality Act.
We recommend that the plans be approved and authorization
granted to advertise for bids.
