HomeMy WebLinkAbout1985-189 - ~~ I 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 20 21 22 23 24 25 26 27 28 RESOLUTION NO. 85-l89 RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF SAN BERNARDINO AUTHORIZING THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE FREE PUBLIC LIBRARY TO APPLY FOR LIBRARY SERVICES AND CONSTRUCTION ACT (TITLE I) FUNDS TO SUPPLEMENT THE MICROCOMPUTER HARDWARE INSTALLATION IN THE NEW NORMAN F. FELDHEYM CENTRAL LIBRARY. WHEREAS, the City of San Bernardino is currently constructing the 64,000 square foot Norman F. Feldheym Central Library which includes among its features the first microcomputer laboratory in any public library in the United States; and WHEREAS, it is desirable to purchase the microcomputer hardware separate from the construction funding; and WHEREAS, the San Bernardino County School Superintendent's Office, the San Bernardino City Unified School District, and the 13 Teacher Education and Computer Center (Region l3) have committed 14 $40,000 toward the estimated cost of $90,000 to insure the 15 availability of a computer training facility; and 16 WHEREAS, the City of San Bernardino Redevelopment Agency and 17 Norton Air Force Base are reviewing proposals for the balance of 18 the required funds; and 19 WHEREAS, the California State Library has invited the San Bernardino Public Library to apply for an additional $50,000 through the Library Services and Construction Act (Title I) to supplement the $90,000 hardware installation; and WHEREAS, the federal funds will add an innovative telecommunications component to the microcomputer laboratory in its role as a training facility; and I WHEREAS, the federal funds will provide funds for personnel II costs, including a full-time clerical position, for one year, i i NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND COMMON I 22 23 24 25 26 27 28 1 COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN BERNARDINO AS FOLLOWS: 2 SECTION l. The Board of Trustees of the San Bernardino 3 Public Library is authorized to apply for Library Services and 4 Construction Act (Title I) funds to supplement the funding for the 5 microcomputer facility in the new Norman F. Feldheym Central 6 Library, and the President of the Board is authorized to sign such 7 application and supporting documents on behalf of the City. 8 I HEREBY CERTIFY that the foregoing resolution was duly 9 adopted by the Mayor and Common Council of the City of San 10 Bernardino at a reaular meeting thereof, held on 11 the 20th day of Nav , 1985, by the following vote, 12 to wit: I3 AYES: Council Members rA~~An~nA R~illy.
