ESTABLISHMENT OF SALARIES FOR POLICE DEPARTMENT RANGES P-1, P-2, P-3 & LAW ENFORCEMENT TRAINEE, EFFECTIVE AUGUST 1, 2001 Dept: Date: Synopsis of Previous Council Action: On September 11, 2000. the Mayor and Common Council established salaries for Police Department Ranges P-1, P-2 and P-3, and Law Enforcement Trainee, effective August 1,2000. Recommended Motion: 1 . That the salaries for Police Department Ranges P-1 (Police Officer), P-2 (Detective/Corporal), P- 3 (Sergeant) and Law Enforcement Trainee be established, effective August 1, 2001, as outlined in the attached Staff Report. 2. That the Human Resources Department prepare an amendment to Resolution No. 6429. 3. That the Mayor and Common Council authorize the Director of Finance to amend the Fiscal Year 2001-2002 Budget to transfer $868,000 from the General Govemment Budget (001-092-5011) to the Police Department Budget in the General Fund and make the appropriate adjustments to the various Police grants. t~ d;",:::"u Contact Person: Edward S. BACKGROUND Section 186 of the City Charter established a formula for setting salaries for local safety members, effective August 1 of each year. City staff has reached agreement with Police Safety Employees on the ten cities whose salaries will be averaged to determine this year's P-1, P-2 and P-3 salaries for the Police Department. The cities selected are: Palmdale Norwalk Lancaster Daly City Glendale EI Monte Fullerton Pasadena Inglewood Ventura FINANCIAL IMPACT The new monthly salaries, effective August 1, 2000 are: RANGE A B C D E P-1 $4,041 $4,305 $4,569 $4,833 $5,097 P-2 $4,900 $5,124 $5,348 $5,572 $5,797 P-3 $5,690 $5,918 $6,146 $6,374 $6,600 The increase in each range from 1999 is as follows: RANGE DOLLAR ADJUSTMENT #OF BUDGETED POSITIONS %CHANGE P-1 $186 192 (184 Gen. The Law Enforcement Trainee salary will be changed to $3,233, which is 80% of the Police Officer (P-1), Step A salary. Resolution No. 6429 will be updated to reflect the revised salaries. RECOMMENDATION 1. That the salaries for Police Department Ranges P-1 (Police Officer), P-2 (Detective/Corporal), P-3 (Sergeant) and Law Enforcement Trainee be established, effective August 1, 2001, as outlined in the attached Staff Report. 2. That the Human Resources Department prepare an amendment to Resolution No. 6429. , 3.
