Backl!round: On January 8, 2001, the Mayor and Common Council awarded a contract to All American Asphalt in the amount of $306,473.80 for pavement rehabilitation on Northpark Blvd. from University Parkway, to Little Mountain Drive. The bids ranged from $306,473.80 to $416,121.50. BOX 2229 CORONA, CA 92878-2229 GENTLEMEN: You are hereby compensated for performing the additional work as follows: Item No. Description of Chan2e Cost Install Type "A" retaining curb behind disabled access 1 ramps per Contractor proposal dated 0212112001. 118 linear $1,355.82 feet at $11.49 per linear foot. 2 Construct 1,050 SF asphalt concrete driveway approach and $4,135.30 place 160 LF of 4 foot wide asphalt concrete swale. TOTAL $5,491.12 JUSTIFICATION: Item No.1: During construction of new disabled access ramps, it was determined to be necessary to install modified ramps including retaining curb at several locations to fit the existing right-of-way. In accordance with Section 3-4 "Changed Conditions" of the Standard Specifications, this problem was brought to the attention of the Project inspector. There was no bid item for a retaining curb; therefore, a determination was made to proceed with the installations of the curb at an agreed upon price per linear foot. Our inspector has verified the linear footage installed and rates used to calculate the amount of this change order, The price of $11.49 per linear foot has been reviewed by staff and determined to be comparable to previous bids for similar quantities of the same type of work. Page 2 of 2 Item No.2: In order to address preexisting drainage issues an asphalt drainage ditch was constructed on the north side of Northpark boulevard behind the A,C. Dike to collect the drainage and carry it to an existing storm drain inlet. Also, an existing dirt driveway which provided access to a flood control channel was re-graded and paved to prevent dirt and debris from washing into Northpark Boulevard. The Contractor was directed to perform the work under the provisions of Section 6-1105 "Extra Work" of the Contract Special Provisions and Section 3-3 "Extra Work" of the Standard Specifications. Payment for the work was determined by Time and Materials (T&M) as verified by the City's Construction Inspector.
