Backl!round:
The National Park Service has announced the availability of $28.9 million in grants for
rehabilitation projects under the Urban Park and Recreation Recovery Program (UPARR).
Rehabilitation grants will focus on neighborhood park and recreation sites and facilities that have
"deteriorated to the point where health and safety are endangered or the community's range of
quality recreation service is impaired." Grant funds may be used to remodel, rebuild or develop
existing areas and facilities.
To be eligible for the grants, urban jurisdictions must have an NPS Recovery Action Plan (RAP)
on file. Staff submitted their RAP in March 2001 and received an approval from the National
Parks Services Pacific West Region Offices on April 13, 2001.
The Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department is requesting the authorization to
apply for a grant for $500,000 from the United States Department of the Interior to complete the
following projects:

meeting.
Financial Imnact:

the recommended spending plan for the Safe Neighborhood Parks, Clean Water, Clean
