CITY OF SAN BER~DINO - REQUEST OR COUNCIL ACTION
STAFF REPORT
The Traffic Engineering Section received a request to
install a stop sign at the intersection of Beechwood Avenue at
Azalea Avenue. This request was reviewed by the Traffic Safety
Committee in June of 1991, at which time it was denied. However,
the Committee directed the Traffic Engineering staff to continue
monitoring the intersection.
An investigation recently conducted by the Traffic Engi-
neering Section revealed limi ted visibility for vehicles
approaching the intersection in the southwesterly and south-
easterly directions. The sight restriction is caused by a
combination of intersection geometry and front yard grades, which
means that it cannot be corrected.
All of the aforementioned conditions were found a year ago
when the intersection was reviewed. However, this time, the
front yard landscaping has grown, further limiting visibility.
The current degree of visibility is too low to allow the inter-
section to remain uncontrolled.
In order to alleviate this problem, the Traffic Engi.
neering Section recommends that a stop sign be installed on the
Azalea Avenue approach to the intersection.
