June, 1986 - Allocation of $10,000 in 1985-86 Park Construction Fee
Budget, for development of concept plan for Buckboard
Park, approved.
June, 1986 Application of Supplemental funds in the amount of
$15,000, for development of concept and design plans
for Buckboard Park, approved in 1986-87 Park Construc-
tion Fee Budget.
10-05-87 Resolution No. 87-366 adopted authorizing the
execution of an agreement with Kammeyer & Associates
for professional design.
June, 1988 Allocation of $250,000 in 1988-89 Park Construction
Fee Budget, approved. (Cont. on 2nd Page)
Recommended motion:
That Change Order No. TWO to the contract with Valley Crest
Landscape, Inc. for construction of Park & Street Improvements for
Buckboard Park, in accordance with Plans Nos. 7539 and 7662, be
approved; to authorize the Contractor to remove 3,917.11 cubic yards
of fill and move the dirt to a selected site, at an increase in the
contract price of $12,926.47; from $434,118.70 to $447,045.17.

STAFF REPORT
The construction plans, prepared by a Consulting Landscape
Architect, indicate that the grading of the Buckboard Park Site
would be a "balanced" job, which means that the dirt excavated
would be used to construct the fills. However, after the grading
was completed, there was a surplus of almost 4,000 cubic yards.
This surplus dirt must be removed from this site, in order to
allow the Contractor to complete the improvements shown on the
contract plans.
There is a rather large depression within the unimproved
portion of Al Guhin Park. This depression will have to be filled
in connection with the future development of this area for park
purposes. The price for imported fill material is normally from
$5.00 - $6.00 per cubic yard.
The Contractor has quoted a price of $3.30 per cubic yard
for transporting the surplus fill material from Buckboard Park to
the depression in the area of future expansion for Al Guhin Park.
This work will reduce the cost that will be incurred for
expanding Al Guhin Park into this undeveloped area.
The total estimated project cost includes an amount of
$76,563.74 for contingencies, that could be used to finance the
estimated cost of $12,926.47 (3,917.11 cu. yd. @ $3.30/cu. yd)
for this extra work.
The Department of Parks and Recreation concurs with trans-
porting this surplus fill material to the area of the future
expansion of Al Guhin Park.
We recommend that Change Order No. Two be approved.
