The documents which established the Law Enforcement Trainee and Fire
Fighter Trainee programs stipulated that the salaries would be 80% of
the salary paid to Police Officer (P-1), Step A and Fire Fighter (P-1),
Step A.
As a result of the annual police and fire salary adjustments mandated
by Section 186 of the City Charter, the salaries for the Law Enforce-
ment and Fire Fighter Trainee's are adjusted accordingly.

Fire Department and $5080 (FY87-88) in the Police Department.
~ During the Executive Session of March g, 1987, a salary study was authorized
for management and ,confidential employees. The study was confirmed in Resol-
tion 87-83, entitled "RESOLUTION AMENDING MANAGEMENT AND CONFIDENTIAL EMPLOYEE
COMPENSATION ANp BENEFITS."
In this Resolution, it was agreed that "said imolementation shall become ef-
fective on or before July 1, 1987. The findings' of the survey shall be phased
in on a uniform basis for all employees affected thereby".
The attached Resolutions amend Resolution 6413, and provide for the implemen-
tation of the salary study as recommended by the salary study consultant for
the Management/Confidential Group.
During the same Executive Session, a salary study was authorized for the Mid-
dle Management Unit. It was completed and has been negotiated into the MOU,
as part of the settlement package. It is recommended for your adoption ef-
