STAFF REPORT
An Underground Utility District is being proposed on Mt. Verno~-
Avenue, to facilitate removal of overhead utility facilities.
Existing street lights on this section of Mt. Vernon Avenue are
owned by Edison and mounted on their wood power poles. These lights
will be taken out of service when the power poles are removed.
It is proposed that new street lights be installed, in order to
avoid the street becoming unlighted when the undergrounding of
utilities is accomplished. These new street lights will be owned
by the City, which will result in savings for electrical energy charges.
Installatkm of City-owned street lights will reduce crime and
improve traffic safety by increasing the lighting level.
We recommend that a finding be made that the installation of
these street lights is needed for health and safety reasons.
