CITY OF SAN BERNARDINO - REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION
STAFF REPORT
This matter is being placed on the Agenda at the request of
the San Bernardino Valley Board of Realtors. Attached to the
request is a petition signed by school staff members at
Golden Valley Junior,High and Parkside Elementary, relative
to the volume of traffic on Waterman.
The Harrison Canyon Freeway is a matter over which Cal-Trans
and the County of San Bernardino have greater jurisdiction
than does the City of San Bernardino. However, the Board of
Realtors would like to have the matter discussed by the Mayor
and Common Council, relative to the build-up of traffic on
Waterman and the attendant problems which the future increase
in traffic will pose for the City.
Right-of-way, construction costs, freeway tie-in, etc. are
aspects of the project in which the City would play a lesser
role than would the other two jurisdictions. The increasing
traffic on Waterman is of vital interest to the City; how-
ever, and City participation in any comprehensive approach to
a solution would be extremely important.

THE UNDERSIGNED, request that the City of San Bernardino,
through its elected officials and appropriate traffic commit-
tee, take action to reduce both the volume and speed of traf-
fic on Waterman Avenue between 40th street and the cross-town
freeway. Particular concern is that this area is principally
residential, and that at parkdale Drive, on the westside 1s
Golden Valley Jr. High School, and on the eastside, Parks1de
Elementary School. Because of the high volume of traffic, the
high speed of vehicles on Waterman Avenue, and the noise
