'!he Police Chief, Donald Bun1ett proposes the followi ng reorganization of his deparbnent. A. A new classification of Senior Dispatcher should be established with it's primary p.u:pose to perform trainin:J of new Dispatchers within the deparbnent. 'lhis would enable the Dispatcher SUperVisor to concentrate on other supervisory responsibilities durin:J the course of their shift. B. Establish the salary rang-e for Senior Dispatcher at Rl093 ($1902-2319jMo.). '!his is consistent with current rang-es for like positions ani would main tain internal equity. C. Four Dispatcher II positions would be an additional cost of $5648 per year. positions. reclassified to senior Dispatcher at '!his would leave 15 Dispatcher I/II D. Reclassify existin:J Police Assistant classification to a 3 tier system of community Service Representative I, Community Service Representative II, ani community Service Representative III. Ten existin:J positions of Corrplaint Desk coordinator would be upgraded to the community Service Representative I level (7.7% increase). Fifteen of the current Police Assistants will becane Community Service Representative l's (no salary <::hanJe); 10 of the existin:J Police Assistants will be upgraded to Community service Representative II's based on the technical nat:ure of duties (7.7% increase); 1 Community Services Representative will be reclassified to community Service Representative II (2.5% increase). '!he new classification of community service Representative III would ,be established for future use, but not funded. E. '!he salary rang-es for the Community Service Representative series would be as follClVlS: Community Service Representative I Rl083 ($168l-2049jMo.) * Community Service Representative II Rl089 ($1812-2206jMo.) Community service Representative III RZ116 ($2003-2693jMo.) * '!he community Service Representative I rang-e would remain the same as the previous Police Assistant rang-e. F. '!he financial impact for the implementation of the community Service Representative career ladder series is $39,794 per year. Total financial impact of the entire proposal for the Police Deparbnent is $45,442 annually. '!he added fundin:J cost will come from the general fund. G. '!he Personnel Department has reviewed these proposals ani recommends approval. '!he COI.UlCil Personnel Committee reviewed this matter in depth at its May 4, 1989 meetin:J ani recommen:1s approval.
