HomeMy WebLinkAbout1986-386 I 2 3 4 5 6 RESOLUTION NO. Rn lRn RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF SAN BERNARDINO SUPPORTING RETENTION OF COURT OF APPEAL IN THE CITY OF SAN BERNARDINO. BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN BERNARDINO AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1. Recitals. A. The Fourth District of the California Court of Appeal 7 has been situated in the State Office Building in the center of 8 the City of San Bernardino, at a location convenient to freeways 9 and with adequate public services and parking, for many years, 10 but, due to continuing expansion of litigation, now needs larger 11 quarters. 12 B. The City of San Bernardino recognizes the need of the 13 Court of Appeal for adequate space in a high quality office 14 structure, convenient to litigants and attorneys, yet assuring 15 the justices and their staff of comfortable, spacious, and clean 16 facilities adequate to their needs. % 17 C. The City of San Bernardino, the staff of its 18 Redevelopment Agency and various other entities including 19 representatives of the San Bernardino County Bar Association and 20 the area Chamber of Commerce have spent, and are prepared to 21 spend, all time necessary to assist the Court of Appeal in 22 locating convenient, adequate, high quality office space within 23 the downtown area of the City of San Bernardino, thereby assuring 24 the continued availability of ready access to the courts for the 25 public. Quality office space is available with adequate parking, 26 adequate public transportation, and convenient access to other 27 courts and other governmental and public facilities, and the City 28 stands ready to do all in its power to assure the continuance of I I 2 3 4 5 6 this vital service within the City limits of the City of San Bernardino. SECTION 2. Implementation. The City of San Bernardino urges the California Court of Appeal, the Government of the State of California, and all state officials interested in the welfare of the citizens of San 7 Bernardino County to support the relocation of the Fourth 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 20 21 22 23 24 25 26 27 28 District Court of Appeal to other facilities within the downtown area of the City of San Bernardino. The City also urges State Assemblymen Gerald Eaves and William Leonard and State Senator Ruben Ayala to lend their support and encouragement to the retention of this service in the downtown area of San Bernardino. The City further commits its staff to providing all reasonable assistance to court officials and staff and to other state personnel in locating and arranging transfer of operations into other suitable court facilities in the downtown San Bernardino .. area. I HEREBY CERTIFY that the foregoing resolution was duly adopted by the Mayor and Common Council of the City of San Bernardino at an adiourned reqularmeeting thereof, held on the day of 29th September , 1986, by the following vote, to wit: AYES: Council Members Estrada, Reilly, Hernandez, Marks.
