Dear Judy:
o
Thanks for att~ding the reception at my home honoring Latino civic leaders a few weeks
ago. I flllI\ly appreciate that you took time from yoW' hectic schedulc.
As you know from heariDg me speak, Cat State, San Bernardino has grown rapidly to
over 14,000 students, with ~ than 70 majors and prvarmns offlnd in five academic
colleges. Major ~t initiatives include efforts to build a permanent off-campus center
in Coachella Valley, developing a Water Resources Institute, initiating a new
Community-University ParlDcrsbip Center, and aaling an Entrepreneursbip Institute.
The latter three undertakings will, 1 hope, support the BIG strategy.
I'd like to discuss these and other developments in more detail at a luncheon workshop
with you and members of the Council as soon as convenient for you all.
I'm excited about the c:hance for dialogue because there are so many opportunities for the
University and the City to work together to improve access to and the quality of
higher education for students, and to m_ the needs ofbWiiness and government through
the development and shariDg of resources, information and expertise.
I look forward to this important workshop. I'll ask Amina Carter, our Coordinator of
Governmental Relations, to help schedule a time I might visit.
