STAFF REPORT
JlllDTA. T.&1II\..CU':APIIIG
On December 2, 1992, the Community Development Commission approved
funding for Phase II for medians and parkways as part of the City-wide
Landscaping and Beautification Program.
On April 9, 1992, the Redevelopment Committee considered a request for
financial assistance regarding Median Landscaping. The Committee voted
1 - 1 on this issue (with Councilperson Estrada absent), but requested
that staff to forward the item to the Commission for consideration.
The More Attractive Community Foundation (MAC) has proposed a joint
venture to improve the appearance of the following medians in the City:
1. Highland and Sterling
2. Kendall and Union
3. "E" Street at Benedict and at Central
4. Mt. Vernon and 2nd Street
Most of these medians are currently paved with asphalt. The MAC
Foundation has proposed that they be paved with cobblestones, since it
would not require irrigation or ongoing maintenance. The work has been
estimated to cost $30,000 for the entire project. MAC has proposed
that the City provide $15,000, or half of the project cost.
It is recommended that the funds for the City-wide Landscaping and
Beautification Program be used to finance this joint project.
Staff recommends adoption of the form motion.
