Assessment District should go.
If they cut Police, the
Suggest that Council & Depts. look at Fire Dept. for 3, 8hr shifts
which would make the Firefighters work a 40 hr. work week -- a
traditional work week.
Does not feel we should run fire trucks with paramedics units --
costs too much.

QUESTION:
Has the City done a survey as to how many people actually watch the

want to come out and help the kids across the street?

CONCERN:
Rowe Library is one of the most valuable assets this town has.
Petitions are being circulated -- she believes that 75% of the
people in this town would sign it. This is a lovely library. The
children were in tears today -- they want to sign the petition. If
you have to close branch libraries, that is understood -- but not
one as popular as Rowe!

QUESTION:
Why don't we have cats licensed? (Since Animal Control doesn't make
money. )
Carl Lucey
882-0848
CONCERN:
Resides in the 4th Ward. Does not want anything to happen to
disband the motorcycle unit. He is a retired peace officer. Had
a problem in his neighborhood -- Fairfax Drive -- lots of dope
buys, etc. They called the Police Department and received no help.
The neighbors organized -- 60 in all (He was the chairman) and they
had a meeting and invited the Mayor. The Mayor did not make the
meeting but Councilman Marks and Assistant Chief Minor did. The
next morning there were 7 motorcycle officers there to issue
citations and clean up the problem. He and the neighbors are very
grateful. Again is NOT IN FAVOR OF DISBANDING THE MOTORCYCLE UNIT
AT THE POLICE DEPARTMENT.

rather pay more taxes than lose these services.

CONCERN:
Go back and look at the budgets for 1933-40 and take a real hard
look at how things have grown and what we REALLY need.
Cancel Main Street project and all projects/programs that do not
provide a direct service to the citizens. Cancel the Superblock.
Do not cut Police, Fire, Refuse, Libraries, Crossing Guards. Move
the Police Department to Norton. Norton should not be under one
developer -- a select committee should be appointed and a person
hired to manage the committee for future use.
Would like to thank the Mayor and Council very much for having this
line open so that we can call with our input.

CONCERN:
Don't eliminate Computer Center at Library. His children attend
Pacific H. S. and they did away with computer program because
there is one at the Library. Many other schools also have done
this.

citizens donated their time and money to do repairs on this so the
community would have this to use. Now they want to take it away.
What about the donated money and services, how are they repaid?

OPINION:
What does Council think -- is the city Admin. their personal
secretary. It looks like she has to be their babysitter. Why
don't they prepare for the meetings or let their staff get the
information.
They should not fight amongst themselves. It looks unprofessional.

OPINION:
Bad idea to close community centers. Keeps children off the
streets. Most crime actually occurs during the daylight hours
downtown and these keep the kids occupied.

SUGGESTION:
Why doesn't the Fire Dept. take over Code Compliance and other
facets of the Bldg. department like in Rialto or the Bldg. Dept
take over Fire Prevention. Reduce at least one dept. The work is
very similar and could be combined.

This is a message for Esther Estrada -- please be fair. Don't you
know that San Bernardino is crime ridden? I have lived in San
Bernardino since 1936 and have listened to a police scanner since
then. I hear the calls and when something happens we get as far
away from San Bernardino as possible. Toys R Us went to Rialto
because of the crime. Don't cut police.
