The Committee requested that staff further research the program and provide additional budget details, and on November 14, 1991, the Redevelopment Committee reconsidered the new information and recommended approval to the Community Development Commission. The Community Development Commission previously had approved the appropriation of one million dollars ($1,000,000) from bond proceeds to be used for beautification purposes. To date, $832,000 of the $1 million has been allocated to the Landscape Development and Maintenance 50/50 Program ($400,000), the Sidewalk Fill-In Program ($100,000), the Landscaping Program for Properties Adjacent to Government-owned Parcels ($192,000) and to Tree Planting Program for Citt/Commission-owned Properties ($20,000), as well as for Christmas Clean-up ($100,000) and Hard to Handle Trash ($20,000). The planning and design for Phase I beautification of government-owned parcels funded on May 6, 1991 has been completed and landscape installation started on October 27, 1991. Cost figures computed for the Phase I government parcels have averaged approximately $10,000 per parcel for design (101), materials (401), and labor (501). The funding presently requested in the amount of $300,000 is for Phase II beautification of an additional twenty-five government-owned parcels which includes medians, parkways and other parcels listed on Exhibit I. The budget presented in Exhibit II provides a cost breakdown for funding Phase II and also includes $50,000 for on-going maintenance of both Phase I and II landscaped government parcels. After Commission action, Phase II plan design could commence in December, 1991, with installation beginning in February, 1992. Because only $168,000 remains of the original $1 million appropriated, the recommendation also includes additional budget authority o.f $132,000. KJH:DAD:paw:0205q COIMISSIO.
