Requests are received on occasion from persons desiring
that the name of a street be changed.
There is no established legal proceeding for changing the
name of a street. However, we have followed a practice of
notifying adjoining property owners and residents, affected City
Departments, and utilities. A map is prepared as an attachment
to the Council agenda items. Notification to adjoining property
owners often results in meetings to discuss the impact upon their
residences or businesses.
Below is an estimate of cost for a typical street name
change proceeding.
Salaries - 20 hours X $21.45/Hr. =
$ 386.10

Overhead - $386.10 X 0.30

Total Average Cost
It is, therefore, recommended that a fee of $500.00 be
established.
About two requests for street name changes are received
each year. Therefore, the annual anticipated revenue from the
new fee is $1,000.
We recommend that the fee of $500.00 be approved.

NAME CHANGES.
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND COMMON COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF SAN BERNARDINO AS FOLLOWS:

SECTION 1.
Findings.
The Mayor and Common Council
hereby find:

A. A public meeting was set pursuant to the provisions

of Government Code Section 54990, et seq., to consider the
establishment of a new fee for processing requests for street

expense to the City of providing this service shall be borne by
15

name changes by the Department of Public Works.
B.
The proposed fee of Five Hundred Dollars
($500.001
does
exceed
the
actual
incurred by
the
City
for
cost
not
processing
for
changes,
the
additional
street
requests
name
the General Fund of the City of San Bernardino.
