THE MAYOR AND COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN BERNARDINO
5 DO ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:
6 SECTION 1. Sections 19.72 . 030 ( 4 ) and ( 5) of the San
7 Bernardino Municipal Code (Development Code) are hereby added to
8 read as follows:
9 "4. Permit the reduction of the minimum dwellinq size
10 standards in the RU. Residential Urban land use desiqnation where

DECLARING THE URGENCY THEREOF.

21 the minimum averaqe livable area shall be the averaqe of those
22 projects within 1000 feet."
23 SECTION 2. The recently adopted Development Code of the
24 City has increased development standards on a Citywide basis with
25 the intent of improvinq the overall imaqe of the City and makinq it
26 a better place to live. It has not been the intent of the Mayor
27 and Common Council to increase standards to a point of makinq

1 certain new single-family development incompatible with
2 surrounding. eXisting single-family development. Where the new
3 standards are considerably different or higher than surrounding
4 development, primarily from the standpoint of dwelling unit size.
5 that new development could be out of place in areas that are
6 predominantly developed. As a result. new development could occur,
7 but remain vacant or may not occur. Either situation is not
8 consistent with the Mayor and Common Council;s goals for overall
9 growth in the City. It is urgent that such clarification be made
10 immediately to ensure that growth continue. consistent' with the
11 City's General Plan.
12 SECTION 3. This urgency ordinance shall become effective
13 upon the date of adoption.
