STAFF REPORT
USE OF FISCALINI FIELD BY
SPIRIT BASBBALL CLUB FOR
NON-BASEBALL ACTIVITY.
The Spirit organization has requested the use of Fiscalini
Field for a non-baseball event on November 2 & 30, 1991. The
event will feature professional boxing of championship
caliber, supervised and controlled by the California State
Athletic Commission. Attached is a letter from F.J. Curlin,
the promoter of the event, which explains the event and the
reason the application was not submitted earlier.
Paragraph 4 of the agreement between the Spirit and the City
provides for Spirit use of Fiscalini Field for non-baseball
related activities up to 15 times each calendar year, subject
to City Council approval. In addition, the spirit is to bear
all costs of such non-baseball events, including utilities,
and the spirit shall also pay to the city 5% of the gross
receipts received for such non-baseball activities. The spirit
has requested the use of the facility for non-baseball
activities four times this calendar year.
JUSTIFICATION FOR PLACEMENT ON THE SUPPLEMENTAL AGENDA

this department until the afternoon of October 16, 1991. The
first use of the facility for this event is for November 2,
1991; therefore, action. for approval/denial needs to be
completed at the October 21, 1991 meeting of the Mayor and

Tom Boggs, Commissioner of Parks & Recreation
Recreation Department
City of San Bernardino

San Bernardino, California
Dear Commissioner Boggs:
This is to request your accordance of late submittal of our
application fo~ use permit for scheduled professional boxing events to
be held at Fiscalini Field Saturdays, November 2nd and November 30th
next between 5:00 P.M. and 11:00 P.M.
The reason for our having failed to meet the October 7th deadline is
the fact that the original opponent for the main event of the evening
encountered licensure difficulties in his attempt to clear with the
California State Athletic Commission.
The result of this problem was that we were unable to schedule the
fight. It was not until two days ago that we succeeded in contracting
a replacement opponent of suitable quality to fill the slot.
We shall be happy to supply you with further details and verification
of the above situation upon your request.
Meanwhile, we would like to thank you, in advance, for your indulgence
in this matter.
Yours sincerely,
/ JjaI?
