A lenathy discussion ensued reaardiq the ilDplllllentation of the
proaram, use and distribution of funda, circ_tances which detel'llline whether
or not a hoIDe is delllled "ilaediatelY danaerous or unsafe" as to warrant
evictions; and the role the Bous1n& Coaaittee should play in this instance.
Chairman Bolcomb said he .upported code enforcllllent, but stressed beina
more practical and less teCbnical in the eviction process. Be felt eviction
should be used only when necessary, aDd recoaaended us1n& a less drastic, more
cost-effective means of dealiq with each problllll. Be stated the UIOunt of
money used to relocate could have instea~ been used to repair the safety
violations which pose hazardous livina conditions.
C_issioner pope-Ludlam recoaaended referrina this issue to the
Bousina Coaaittee which is responsible for overseeina the implementation of
the relocation proaram aDd use of housina monies. The Mayor requested the
Bousina Coaaittee look into the reasons the people are beina evacuated aDd
substantiate if it was for a health aDd safety issue. Coaaissioner Bernandez
also shared these vieva.

Minor to allocate $100,000 from the Twenty Percent Set-Aside fund to replenish
