Recommended motiOn:
Authorize the elimination of t e following from the Department of Planningl

Authorize elimination of the following effective thirty days after the delivery
of layoff notice: one plan ch,cker; two general building inspectors.
Authorize the elimination of one assistant planner position to become effective
when the position is vacated or by June 15 whichever comes first.
Authorize the reinstatement of the position of planning division manager, and
eliminate the positions of principal planner effective upon the appointment of
planning division manager.
Instruct Personnel Director to amend
Resolution 6433 to r~ these changes.

A slowdown in commercial building

Those reductions, approved by the Personnel Committee on
April 4, 1991, are listed below:

Associate Planner (1 of 4)
*Assistant Planner (1 of 4)
Senior Code Compliance Officer (1 of 2)
Code Compliance Officer (2 of 8)
Typist Clerk II (1 of 6)

Three employees from the ten positions listed above, (the
plan checker and two general building inspectors) will be
laid off if this action is approved. Their layoffs will take
effect thirty days after receipt of official notice.
We are requesting delayed implementation of an additional 30
days for elimination of the assistant planner position as
there is a possibility that a position will be vacated due to
promotion.
All other positions are presently vacant. The senior code
compliance officer, two code compliance officer and typist
clerk II positions are associated with the Sign Sticker
program which was not implemented.
The recommended action would create
$312,000 and an actual savings of

As an additional cost saving measure, I recommend the
reinstatement of the planning division manager position and
the elimination of two principal planner positions effective
upon the hiring of the planning division manager.
This would net an additional annual savings of $50,592 for a
total budgetary savings of $362,592 or $243,612 actual.
