(909)885-7515 October 21, 1994 Members of the Council Mayor Minor The Chamber of Commerce is the voice of the business community. The life blood of this City are the businesses which are located here and contribute to the tax base. The continued anti-business attitude of several of the Council members and employees of this City will only contribute to the decay of San Bernardino. Let no one underestimate the deteriorating state of this City. Businesses are unhappy with the present condition of this City and are continuing to look elsewhere for business opportunities. San Bernardino Area Chamber of Commerce formally protests the actions of Councilman h Hernandez in threatening members of the Chamber.~. Hernandez has been r.lllling embers of the Chamber of Commerce and threatening that if they do not oppose the reca11 ffort against him, he will see to it that the City of San Bernardino does not do further business ith them.~. Hernandez has also threatened members of the business community that if they do not support him all votes will be against that business. ~er, Mr. Hernllntlp!>: has been calling upon employees of the City who are current members of the Chamber, to resign from the Chamber and to not participate in any Chamber activities. The Chamber protests these threats and the actions of other City Council persons and employees in attacking or threatening members of the business community for contributing to the reca11 effort. Our system of government is based upon the vote of the people. It is apparently the objective of the offending council persons that the will of the people should not be afforded the opportunity to be displayed. If the Council persons have done no wrong, they should not be in fear of a vote of the people. Their threats demonstrate their lack of confidence that the voters of this community will vote to approve their actions. Board of Directors San Bernardino Area Chamber of Commerce
