APPROVAL OF PLANS , AUTHORIZATION TO ADVERTISE FOR BIDS
IMPROVEMENT OF HUNTS LANE GRADE CROSSING NO. B-541.0
Plans for the improvement of the Hunts Lane Grade Crossing have
been prepared by a Consulting Engineer, and the project is ready
to be advertised for bids. The project consists, in general, of
widening the grade crossing to provide 4 traffic lanes, in-
stalling rubber crossing material, widening the approach roadways
and installing flashing lights and automatic gates. All work will
be done by Southern Pacific Railway Company forces, with the
exception of widening the approach roadways, which will be done by
contract.
The agreement with Southern Pacific sets forth our understandings
in respect to the improvements to be installed at this grade
crossing. The Agreement provides, in general, that Southern
Pacific will rehabilitate the cross ties and rails for the three
rail lines across Hunts Lane, and install the City furnished
rubber crossing material. Also, the Agreement states the City
will reimburse Southern Pacific for all costs they incur.
The existing woodplanking for the three tracks of this crossing
will be replaced with rubber material. Rubber material will also
be installed on the widened portions of the three tracks. This
material was selected in order to provide a smoother riding sur-
face. Purchase Order No. 903736 was issued to the Omni Corpora-
tion to furnish the material, which is now stored.
Below is an estimate of the total project cost:

203 Funds to finance 90% of the cost for installing the automatic
gates. Caltrans approved this application, subject to the
condition that the project be handled by our office, since we have
had previous experience with Section 203 projects.
Approximately 1/2 of the local agency share will be paid by the
City of Colton, since the portion west of the centerline is in
their jurisdiction, as stipulated in Agreement approved by Reso-
lution No. 4654, adopted 8-6-84.
Execution of Program Supplement No. 50 served to obligate $150,300
in Section 203 Federal-Aid Funds.
