CITY OF SAN BERNARDINO - REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION
STAFF REPORT
Subiect:
Resolution authorizing submittal of a grant application for financial assistance from the great
American Station Foundation for the purpose of Santa Fe Depot Restoration.
Back!!:round:
The City of San Bernardino has committed to restoring its historic Santa Fe Depot. Staff has
been researching funding sources to assist with the costs associated with the restoration project.
As a member of the Great American Station Foundation, staff learned of the Foundation's
financial support grant while attending a conference last year. The Great American Station
Foundation is designed to serve as a catalyst for community-based station development
initiatives. The grant award maximum is $25,000.
The cost of the project is estimated to be $9-$10 million. Although this particular grant award is
minor in comparison to the overall construction costs, support from the Foundation may
encourage assistance from other funding sources.
The grant application is due June I, 1999.
Financial Imnact: If awarded, the 1999 Application for Financial Support from the Great
American Station Foundation will provide $25,000 to assist in the City's efforts to renovate the
Santa Fe Depot. No matching funds are required.
Recommendation: It is recommended that the Mayor and Common Council adopt the
resolution.
