RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
3 SAN BERNARDINO AUTHORIZING THE SUBMITTAL OF TWO PROJECT
APPLICATIONS FOR THE SEVENTH FUNDING CYCLE OF THE SAFE ROUTES TO
4 SCHOOL (SR2S) PROGRAM AND, IF AWARDED, AUTHORIZING THE
DEVELOPMENT SERVICES DEPARTMENT TO ADMINISTER THE GRANT.

WHEREAS, Governor Schwarzenegger recently signed State Bill 1087/S0TO,
extending the Safe Routes to School Program for two more years through 2008. The SR2S
Program is a construction program that is intended to improve and enhance the safety of school
pedestrians and bicycle facilities and related infrastructure. It is anticipated that District 8
agencies, which include Riverside and San Bernardino Counties, may receive approximately
$3,000,000 to fund their (7th cycle) SR2S Projects this fiscal year.
WHEREAS, The City has nominated two projects for the current funding cycle of the
SR2S Program. The projects, which require a 10% local match, are prioritized as follows:

1. Lincoln Elementary School: Install traffic signal $20,600 $185,400 $206,000
2. Lytle Creek Elementary School: Install sidewalks $54,544 $490,396 $544,940
Hillside Elementary School: Install sidewalks " " "
Golden Valley Middle School: Install sidewalks " " "
Total SR2S project funding breakdown: $75,144 $675,796 $750,940
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Mayor and Common Council of the
City of San Bernardino ratify the submission of two project applications for the seventh funding
cycle of the Safe Routes to School Program.
