Adding 29.30% to reflect variable fringe benefit costs which rise with salary, the total added
costs for salaries and fringe benefits are $117,900. By comparison, total Section 186 costs for
this group in FY 06-07 were $57,600.
Financial Impact:
The City's FY 2007-2008 approved budget includes $2.8 million in General Government for all
Charter 186 anticipated salary increases. The Police Safety Unit costs (excluding Measure Z
positions), Fire Safety Unit costs and the Police Management Unit costs which were previously
approved, totaled $2,081,000, leaving a remaining balance of$719,ooo. The amount of Charter
186 salary increases for the Fire Management Unit as outlined above is $117,900, leaving a
remaining balance 0[$601,100, which can be used to offset costs of the Classification and
Compensation Study implementation.
Recommendation:
1. That the salaries for Fire Department Ranges P-5 (Battalion Chief), P-6 (Deputy Fire Chief),
and P-7 (Fire Chief) be established, effective August 1,2007.
2. That the Human Resources Department amend Resolution No. 6429 to reflect the above
action.
3. Authorize the Finance Director to amend the FY 2007-08 Budget by increasing the Fire
Department General Fund Budget for Charter 186 costs by transferring $117,900 from the
General Government Budget in account number 001-092-5011 to the appropriate Fire
Department Divisions budget accounts.
