Recommended Motion: 1. That the salaries for Fire Department Ranges P-5 (Battalion Chief), P-6 (Deputy Fire Chief), and P-7 (Fire Chief) be established, effective August 1, 2007. 2. That the Human Resources Department amend Resolution No. 6429 to reflect the above action. 3. Backnound: Section 186 of the City Charter established a fonnula for setting salaries for local safety members, effective August 1 of each year. An agreement was reached with Fire Management on the ten cities to be used for this year's calculation. The salaries of those ten cities have been averaged to determine the salaries for this year for Fire Management classifications. By comparison, total Section 186 costs for this group in FY 06-07 were $57,600. Financial Impact: The City's FY 2007-2008 approved budget includes $2.8 million in General Government for all Charter 186 anticipated salary increases. The Police Safety Unit costs (excluding Measure Z positions), Fire Safety Unit costs and the Police Management Unit costs which were previously approved, totaled $2,081,000, leaving a remaining balance of$719,ooo. The amount of Charter 186 salary increases for the Fire Management Unit as outlined above is $117,900, leaving a remaining balance 0[$601,100, which can be used to offset costs of the Classification and Compensation Study implementation. Recommendation: 1. That the salaries for Fire Department Ranges P-5 (Battalion Chief), P-6 (Deputy Fire Chief), and P-7 (Fire Chief) be established, effective August 1,2007. 2. That the Human Resources Department amend Resolution No. 6429 to reflect the above action. 3. Authorize the Finance Director to amend the FY 2007-08 Budget by increasing the Fire Department General Fund Budget for Charter 186 costs by transferring $117,900 from the General Government Budget in account number 001-092-5011 to the appropriate Fire Department Divisions budget accounts.
