On June 3, 1991, the Mayor and Common Council adopted the Development Code.
Recommended motion:
That Planning staff be directed to prepare an amendment to the Development Code 19.20(C)
to allow chain link fences in residential districts; or
That this item be referred to the Legislative Review Committee for review.

land use designations in particular circumstances.

REOUEST
That Planning staff be directed to prepare a Development Code
Amendment to allow chain link fences in RE (Residential Estates),
RL (Residential Low), and RS (Residential Suburban) land use
designations in particular circumstances.
BACKGROUND
When the Development Code was adopted on June 3, 1991, it permitted
the use of chain link fencing in the CH (Commercial Heavy), IL
(Industrial Light), IH (Industrial Heavy), and IE (Industrial
Extractive) land use designations. Chain link fencing was not
permitted in the residential areas of the City (Development Code
section 19.20(C) This has caused a hardship as citizens wishing to
protect their property from crime have not been able to do so.
There are attachments related to this issue. One letter was sent
by Jackie Johnson (tenant) and Bob Dicksion (owner). The other
attachment is a Development Code Amendment application submitted by
Clint Caston (property owner). There were also several phone calls
from a resident located in the area between Sierra Way and orange
Street and Ninth and Baseline.
RECOMMBRDATl:ON
l:t is recommended that the Mayor and Common Council refer this item
to the Legislative Review Committee for review.
