CITY OF SAN BERNARDINO - REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION
STAFF REPORT
Subiect:
Authorization to install 2-way stop at the intersection of Wall A venue at Olive Street.
Backeround:
The Traffic Engineering Section received a request, through a petItIOn, to evaluate the
referenced intersection for stop signs. The requestors live in the vicinity of the intersection
and claim that several accidents have occurred at this location. They claim that the accidents
could have been prevented if stop signs were in place.
Traffic Engineering Staff evaluated the request. This intersection is currently uncontrolled. It
is located in an entirely residential area. There are dips across the east and west legs of the
intersection. Wall Avenue carries approximately 1,200 vehicles a day while Olive Street
carries approximately 800 vehicles per day. There have been two recorded accidents from
January I, 1999 through December 31,2001 (3 years). Both of these accidents are correctable
by stop signs.
It is staff's opinion that based on traffic volumes alone, enough justification exists to install a
2-way stop at the intersection. Since Wall A venue carries more traffic than Olive Street, it is
recommended that Olive Street stop for Wall Avenue.
Financial Impact:
The estimated cost of $500.00 for installing the new stop signs will come from Account No.
