AGENDA ITEM:
Mayor and Common Council
James F. Penman, City Attorney
November 15, 2007
The Establishment and Funding of a Full-Time Permanent City
Attorney Investigator at One-Half Time
BACKGROUND
The City Attorney's Office currently has one full-time Supervising City Attorney
Investigator and one full-time City Attorney Investigator shared equally by two retired police
officers. Based upon increased investigative needs in criminal, civil, and administrative
actions, as well as an anticipated increase of citations due to the proposed expansion of
the Operation Phoenix areas, the City Attorney's Office is requesting funding for one
additional position of City Attorney Investigator at one-half time.
The Personnel Committee considered this item at its November 13, 2007 meeting
and recommended that this item be approved.
FINANCIAL IMPACT
Based on the recently approved classification and compensation study and the
current benefit structure, the projected annual and fiscal year cost for one full-time
permanent City Attorney Investigator at one-half time is as follows:
SALARY AT STEP 11
$5,925 x 12 = 71,100 annually
50% = $35,550 annually
BENEFITS AND HEALTH: $6,255
UNEMPLOYMENT/MEDICARE 1.7%: $ 604
$6,859

SALARY/BENEFITS $35,550 + $6,859 = $42,409 annually
