II RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF SAN BERNARDINO ENDORSING SENATE BILL 215
, (FORAN), IN PRINCIPLE, AND URGING ITS ENACTMENT TO PROVIDE ADDITIONAL FINANCING
II FOR STREET MAINTENANCE AND IMPROVEMENTS.

WHEREAS, inflation and declining consumption of motor vehicle fuels
5
have drastically reduced the purchasing power of the revenues generated by
6
the seven cents per gallon gasoline and diesel fuel tax that was last increased
7
in 1963; and
8
WHEREAS, the City of San Bernardino, like other cities in California,
has had to supplement every dollar allocated to them from these taxes with City
funds or reduce the maintenance and construction of city streets significantly;

I State of California, have too great an investment in streets to allow them to
I get in a severe state of disrepair; and

I where we are heading if additional revenues are not made available to maintain
II our streets, roads and highways in a safe, fuel and cost efficient condition;

WHEREAS, the citizens of our City, as well as others throughout the

WHEREAS, accelerated deterioration of our streets appears to be
16

WHEREAS, Senators Foran, Sperow, Mills, Johnson and Alquist, in
conjunction with Assemblymen Young and Ingalls, have introduced Senate Bill 25
which, if adopted as introduced, would increase the State Motor Vehicle fuel
tax revenues allocated to cities by approximately 35% in the 1982-83 fiscal

year and over 50% in the 1983-84 and subsequent years;

NOW, THEREFORE, THE MAYOR AND COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN
25
BERNARDINO EARNESTLY ENDORSE Senate Bill 215, in principle, as introduced
26
and urge enactment into law by the State Legislature and Governor during
the current legislative session.
