HomeMy WebLinkAbout1986-057 F'# ..: -- 1 RESOLUTION NO. 86-57 2 RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF SAN BERNARDINO PROVIDING FOR THE SUBMISSION OF AN ADVISORY MEASURE RELATING TO THE CITY'S POLICY OF 3 SELLING OR GIVING AWAY OF IMPOUNDED AND UNCLAIMED ANIMALS FOR RESEARCH, TESTING OR EDUCATIONAL PURPOSES AT A SPECIAL MUNICIPAL 4 ELECTION TO BE CONSOLIDATED WITH THE STATEWIDE PRIMARY ELECTION TO BE HELD IN SAID CITY ON JUNE 3, 19861 AND REPEALING RESOLUTION NO. 5 86-42. 6 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF 7 SAN BERNARDINO AS FOLLOWS: 8 SECTION 1. Recitals. 9 A. On January 9, 1986, the Mayor and Common Council 10 conducted a public hearing on the City's policy of selling dogs 11 and cats for research purposes to organizations accredited by the 12 American Association for Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care. 13 B. At said public hearing, the Mayor and Common Council 14 received testimony in favor and in opposition to the sale of such 15 animals for research. 16 C. The Mayor and Common Council directed that an advisory 17 measure on selling or giving away of impounded and unclaimed 18 animals for research, testing or educational purposes be placed on 19 the ballot in June to allow the voters of the City of San 20 Bernardino to express their opinion on whether the City's policy 21 of selling pound animals for research should be continued. 22 SECTION 2. Submittal of Measure. 23 The following advisory measure shall be submitted to the 24 qualified electors of the City of San Bernardino for their 25 recommendation at the consolidated special municipal and statewide 26 primary election to be held in said City on June 3, 1986: 27 / / / / / 28 / / / / / ~ Shall the City continue to sell or give 4 away impounded and unclaimed animals for research, testing or educational purposes 5 to legally accredited organizations? : ... \ . 1 2 SAN BERNARDINO MEASURE VOTE ONLY" 3 6 . . : .
