HomeMy WebLinkAbout1982-3092 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 20 21 22 23 24 25 26 27 28 RESOLUTION NO. 82-309 RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF SAN BERNARDINO AUTHORIZING THE BOARD OF LIBRARY TRUSTEES TO SUBMIT AN APPLICATION TO THE NATIONAL ENDOWMENT FOR THE HUMANITIES FOR A CHALLENGE GRANT TO PROVIDE PARTIAL FUNDING FOR CONSTRUCTION OF A NEW DOWNTOWN LIBRARY. WHEREAS, the City of San Bernardino is committed to finance and con- struct a New Downtown Central Library by January of 1984; and WHEREAS, sources of available construction funds are extremely limited at the present time; and WHEREAS, the San Bernardino Public Library is designated by the State of California as a Major Urban Resources Library (MURL) serving in excess of 250,000 citizens throughout the Inland Empire; and WHEREAS, the Board of Library Trustees of the San Bernardino Public Library has identified a Challenge Grant Program providing construction financing through the National Endowment for the Humanities of one Federal dollar for every three local dollars towards those portions of the building serving the humanities; and WHEREAS, the New Downtown Library would qualify as a project initiated after March 1, 1982, NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN BERNARDINO that the Board of Library Trustees of the San Bernar- dino Public Library is authorized to submit an application to the National Endowment for the Humanities Challenge Grant providing partial funding for construction of a New Downtown Library. I HEREBY CERTIFY that the foregoing resolution was duly adopted by the Mayor and Common Council of the City of San Bernardino at a regular meeting thereof, held on the 19th day of July 1982, by the following vote, to wit: 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 20 21 22 23 24 25 26 27 28 AYES: Council Members Castaneda, Reilly, Hernandez, Quiel, Hobbs, Strickler NAYS: None ABSENT: Council Member Botts City Clerk The foregoing resolution is hereby approved this July , 1982.
